On March 9, 2017, the Stony Point Fire Department was dispatched for several brush fires along the CSX railroad tracks. The first was located in Jones Point, and was quickly contained. As they were operating at that fire, they were notified of another one two miles south at the rear of the BaMar trailer park. As firefighters worked the second fire, neighboring departments further south were toned out for brush fires along the same track line. Luckily the wind blew the fire away from the trailer homes and further into a nearby marsh. Rough terrain, limited access and several separate fires challenged the firefighting efforts. Several other fire departments were brought in on mutual aid to finally extinguish the fires.
