On April 25, 2015, the Dix Hills Fire Department responded to a brush fire on the Pilgrim State Preserve. The fire started and spread into the Deer Park Fire Department’s district. A total of 26 departments were needed to put out the quick moving fire. Chief Larry Bradbury directed the departments’ stump jumpers. The fire was brought under control in about three hours.
