On August 9, 2016, the Brookhaven Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire on Corbin Avenue in Shirley. Upon arrival, 2nd Assistant Chief Pete Dipinto, Jr., observed a heavy smoke condition coming from an abandoned structure. Arriving units made an aggressive interior attack but were hampered by Collyer’s Mansion conditions inside the structure and were forced to exterior operations until the fire was under control. Mutual aid came from Mastic and Mastic Beach; Bellport stood by. The incident was investigated by the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshall’s office and the Suffolk County Arson Squad.
