On June 25, 2023, Chesterfield Fire and EMS responded to the Swift Creek Reservoir for a reported water rescue incident. The caller stated that their husband had gone under the water and had not resurfaced in over 10 minutes. When crews arrived on scene, they received a pinpointed location from the wife of where the victim had gone under. The dive team then began to search in that area. At 2100, all dive crew personnel were brought out of the water and the search was suspended till the morning. On June 26, Chesterfield Fire and EMS continued the recovery operations. Crews used sonar devices throughout the day rather than divers due to the amount of silt in the water. But unfortunately, by sunset on Monday crews still had no luck in finding the body. On June 27, Chesterfield Fire and EMS and Henrico Fire teamed up to continue the search. Both departments worked all day in hopes of finding the body, but by sundown nothing had been found. Later that evening the Chesterfield County Communications Center received a call from a boater reporting they saw what appeared to be a body. Chesterfield Fire and EMS crews recovered it.
