The Wantagh Fire Department was dispatched for an unknown type fire near the canal to the rear of a Shore Road Home in Seaford Harbor on September 28, 2016. First Assistant Chief Gross arrived and found a 35-foot boat fully involved in the canal threatening other boats and houses. Second Assistant Chief Kelly arrived shortly after. Engine 693 arrived, followed by Engine 695 and Ladder 6911, and put one handline and a foam line into operation.
Additional units from all Wantagh houses also responded. It took about 25 minutes to extinguish the fire, which caused some damage to the vacant home the boat was behind. Freeport was requested for a boat to the scene, while Seaford and Bellmore stood by. The fire was deemed suspicious and was under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal Office.
