SUFFOLK, Virginia (May 1, 2024): Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the 200 Block of
Babbtown Road for a residential structure fire. Suffolk Emergency Communications Dispatch
Center dispatched the incident at 11:10 p.m.

Engine 8 arrived at 11:17 p.m. to find heavy fire and smoke showing through the roof of a
single story residential structure. Two occupants and 1 dog safely evacuated prior to
firefighters arrival. Engine 8 and Engine 2 performed an interior fire attack while Ladder 3
performed a search and found no additional occupants. An evacuation order was given by
command at 11:29 p.m. and defensive fire operations ensued. The fire was placed under
control at 12:08 a.m. Two adults were displaced by the fire and the American Red Cross is
providing assistance to the family. No injuries to occupants or firefighters

The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire with Fire Marshal 4
leading the investigation.

Responding units included Battalion 1, Engine 8, Engine 1, Engine 2, Ladder 3, Rescue 1,
Tanker 1, Tanker 7, Tanker 8, Medic 8, EMS1, Safety 1, Fire Marshals 3, 4 and 7 and American Red Cross Suffolk
