On February 19, 2017, a single-engine Piper PA-28 aircraft crashed in a residential neighborhood near the intersection of East 41st Street and Avenue E in Bayonne. Remarkably, no one on the ground was injured. The pilot was taken to the hospital in stable condition. The plane originated from Long Island Republic Airport and had been sightseeing around the Statue of Liberty when the engine failed.
