The Uniondale Fire Department was alerted for a house fire on Uniondale Avenue at 1410 hours on February 25, 2024. First arriving units had fire showing from a two-story home with reports of people and animals possibly trapped in the basement. As crews searched the house, they removed several dogs and cats from the basement, and all survived. There was nobody home at the time, and there were no reported injuries. Mutual aid to the scene was provided by the North Bellmore, Roosevelt, Hempstead, Freeport, and East Meadow Fire Departments at the scene and the fire was under control in one hour. Chief of Department Ellerbe was in charge of the scene, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
