The North Amityville Fire Company was called to a reported house fire on Avon Drive early on September 22, 2016. Second Assistant Chief Benloss arrived to fire showing from the basement window on the exposure four side of the home. Chief of Department Harley arrived and took command of the scene. Third Assistant Chief Rollins arrived and, along with Chief Benloss, handled the fire attack. Engine 1-7-1 was followed in by Heavy Rescue 1-7-5. The engine crew stretched two lines as the crew from 1-7-5 vented and searched. The fire took about 30 minutes to extinguish with the house suffering substantial damage. Copiague responded with an RIT and an engine. The house was the scene of a fatal shooting in August and had been reported to be empty since. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad.
