Vehicle Extrication

On January 17, 2021, at 2:14 a.m., an Engine Company and Paramedic Unit from the Aurora Fire Department (IL) responded to a single-vehicle crash on Eola Road just south of McCoy Drive. Upon arrival, paramedics found a single-vehicle with heavy damage with an approximately 20-year-old female pinned inside. The alarm was upgraded to an Extrication Response bringing a Truck Company and Battalion Chief to the scene. The Truck Company, assisted by the Engine Company, extricated the patient while a paramedic entered the vehicle and began assessing and treating the victim. The patient was successfully removed after 18 minutes and transferred to the Paramedic Unit for further evaluation. Despite the severity of the crash, the patient refused transportation to a hospital and signed a refusal.
