VEHICLE EXTRICATION BUTTERFIELD & DUPAGE PARKWAY:

PATIENT FLOWN TO TRAUMA CENTER

On May 13, 2022, at 7:10 p.m., an Extrication Response (1-Engine, 1-Truck, 1-Medic, 1-Battalion Chief) was
dispatched to Butterfield Road and DuPage Parkway for a vehicle crash with a person trapped. Upon arrival,
firefighters found a single vehicle off the road with significant damage after it struck a tree. The patient was
heavily entrapped in the wreckage. A paramedic from the first arriving Engine Company assessed the patient
and determined the person was in serious condition. Due to the patient’s condition and entrapment, a medivac
helicopter was requested to the scene.

The first arriving Truck Company began working on freeing the patient. Due to the patient’s condition and the
severe wreckage, a second Truck Company was requested to the scene to assist with the extrication process.
Another Engine Company and Battalion Chief were requested to the scene to set up a landing zone for the
helicopter. It took approximately 20 minutes to free the patient. The patient was moved to a Medic Unit for
further treatment. Upon the helicopter’s arrival, the patient was flown to a trauma center.
