Juniata County 911 dispatched Fayette Fire Company and mutual aid to South Main Street for a kitchen fire. Immediately after dispatch, Chief 4-2 arrived reporting smoke showing on the C-side of a 2-½ story occupied apartment complex and requested a second alarm. Upon arrival the first-in engine reported to the C side and deployed a handline. Unfortunately, crews ran into access issues. The next arriving engine deployed lines through the front door and were met with fire. Crews attempted an aggressive attack but were forced back as the fire quickly spread. Eventually the box was raised to what was at least a third alarm due to special calls for additional manpower. Crews remained on the scene for several hours for extensive overhaul and assisting PSP with investigation. In all, 20 fire companies from four counties worked to suppress the fire.
