A fast moving second alarm fire destroyed an apartment building on Belchertown Road at Amherst Commons in Amherst (MA) on June 4, 2016. Workers in the building noticed flames from a ceiling vent and alerted residents and called 911. Firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions in the trussed roof attic space as they arrived. The roof collapsed as it was severely compromised by the heavy fire. Two ladder pipes, deck guns, and handlines were used to knock the fire down.
