Yonkers firefighters rescued an elderly man and his daughter from a burning apartment on November 11, 2016. The fire was reported on the fourth floor of a 10-story apartment building on Midland Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire in apartment and initiated a primary search, finding a male about 90-years old between the living room and kitchen and a female in her 60s in a bedroom. Assistant Chief Edward Cucolo stated that the fire had originated in that bedroom and was possibly a result of careless smoking. Both were in cardiac arrest and the female also suffered severe burns. The victims were brought down and firefighters and Empress EMS regained pulses before transporting. Three other civilians and three firefighters were also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
