WORKING RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE FIRE ON SLEEPY HOLE RD WITH TWO CRITICAL

BURN PATIENTS, ONE FIREFIGHTER INJURY

 

SUFFOLK, Virginia (August 27, 2022): Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the 3600 Block of
Sleepy Hole Road, in Driver, for a residential structure fire. Emergency Communications
dispatched the incident at 12:38 a.m.

Engine 10, Medic 10, and EMS 2 arrived at 12:46 a.m. to find heavy fire and smoke showing
from a large two-story residential home. Two adults were outside the structure with critical
burns when firefighters and medics arrived. Advanced Life Support care was provided by
paramedics to the critically burned patients while additional firefighters initiated a fire attack on
the structure. Due to the distance off the roadway and the advanced care provided the two
critically injured patients, the structure became well involved. Both patients were transported by
ground to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. One firefighter is
injured and is being evaluated by paramedics at this time.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office with
Fire Marshal 1 leading the investigation.

Responding units included Car 1, Battalion 1, Battalion 2, Battalion 3, Engine 10, Engine 5,
Engine 25, Ladder 11, Ladder 3, Ladder 6, Rescue 1, Medic 5, Medic 10, Medic 3, EMS 1,
EMS 2, Safety 1, Tanker 1, Tanker 9, and Fire Marshal 1 and 6.
