200 FFs Tackle Huge Warehouse Fire

On August 16, 2026, more than 200 firefighters from across South Carolina responded to a fire at the MLily USA 66,000 square foot mattress plant in Winnsboro. Myrtle Beach deployed five personnel: Emergency Manager Travis Glatki, Captain Sean Collins, Master Firefighter Steve Waldron, Firefighter George Previs, and Firefighter Justin Gallaway. Columbia Fire Department sent crews. On August 17 Burton Fire District sent one engine and three firefighters.

The initial response to the plant occurred just before 1000 hours on August 16, 2026, when Columbia firefighters and hazmat teams responded to a fire alarm and a report of a chemical smell at the facility. Firefighters located a fire in a conveyor belt involving a foam product. Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire by 1800; however, the fire reignited at 2330. Fire officials believed they had the fire again controlled by 0800 Monday only for it to reignite.

The difficulty extinguishing the fire was due to the complex layout of the building limiting access along with the chemical makeup of the foam used in the mattresses which is flammable and water resistant.
