The Providence (RI) Fire Department responded to Hillside Village on Leander Street for a box alarm. Companies arrived to find nothing showing from the six-story apartment building. Engine-6 found the alarm panel showed floor 4. As they arrived

to investigate, they encountered smoke and sprinkler activation in an apartment. A kitchen fire was discovered and as a precaution, Battalion 2 struck a second alarm. Crews worked to knock down the fire and evacuate all of the remaining occupants of the building. The heavy fire was quickly knocked down with the use of a handline and the sprinkler system. One victim on the third floor required EMS due to a medical problem. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
