Detroit Firefighters Battle Family Dollar Blaze

On July 5, 2014, firefighters received a report of smoke coming from the Family Dollar Store located on East McNichols and Jos Compau in Detroit, Michigan. Chief 7 arrived to find an occupied store with smoke showing and ordered all companies to take a defensive posture due to no life hazard and contents of the fire. The fire burned for two hours before the building collapsed. Firefighters would remain on scene dousing hot spots. Heavy equipment had to be brought in to demolish the building. The cause is believed to be intentional.
