Copiague Vacant House Fire

Friday, October 13th, 2017, 6:58 pm

The Copiague Fire Department was alerted for a house fire on Dante Avenue early on July 6, 2017. Chief of Department Fitch along with Second and Third Assistant Chiefs Nuzzi and Miller arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a two-story vacant home. Engine 1-3-7 was followed by Ladder 1-3-4 and Engine 1-3-9. The crew from 1-3-4 removed boards from the windows and gained entry through the front door to advance a handline. As the crews removed boards from a rear sliding door, heavy fire vented out and extended to a garage on the property and another on the exposure two side yard. A second line was brought to the rear and put into operation. It took about an hour to bring the fire under control. Mutual aid came from North Lindenhurst, Lindenhurst and Amityville.
