Brandywine River Water Rescue

Monday, September 25th, 2017, 7:47 pm

On August 3, 2017, Wilmington firefighters assigned to Squad 4-D Platoon were returning from a run when they noticed an adult male in the middle of the Brandywine River in distress. Members notified the regional dispatch center and requested a water rescue response. Members of Squad 4 (Wilmington’s technical rescue unit) donned water rescue suits and prepared to make contact with the subject in the river. Additional resources arrived and deployed ropes and rigging. It took rescuers approximately 20 minutes to safely bring the male subject to shore. He was transported to Wilmington Hospital for evaluation.
