On January 25, 2010, Town of Glen firefighters
responded to Egelston Road at about 0100 for a report of a chimney fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that the fire had already vented itself,
and due to high winds the house was well-involved, making a interior attack
very difficult due to limited manpower and water supply at that time. The
residents had been alerted by a smoke detector and were able to call 911.
They escaped without injury. One firefighter was transported to a local
hospital for minor injuries. The house, two cars, and a motorcycle were a
total loss. Fultonville, Fort Hunter, Tribes Hill, Hagaman, Town of Florida,
Rural Grove, and Town of Mohawk firefighters were also called to the scene
for mutual aid. GAVAC ambulance was also on standby.

Fatal Fire in East Fishkill.

The Lake Carmel Fire Department was dispatched for a
reported working structure fire on Route 52 near the Dutchess - Putnam
border on the morning of December 30, 2010. When units arrived on the scene,
they found a small two-story residence fully involved in fire and additional
units from the Brewster and Carmel Fire Departments were requested to the
scene. Approximately twenty minutes later, it was determined that the fire
was actually in the East Fishkill Fire District (Dutchess County), and they
were also dispatched to the scene. The house was a total loss, and it was
believed that the male owner of the residence was unable to escape. Once the
fire was extinguished, the body of the male occupant was located in the
rubble of the burned out structure. The cause of the fire was investigated
by the East Fishkill Fire Department Fire Investigation Division, The
Dutchess County Office of Emergency Response Fire Investigation Division,
and the East Fishkill Police Department.

New Hackensack Battles Car Fire
on Frigid Morning.

The New Hackensack Fire Department recently responded to
this car fire on Bell-Air Lane in the early morning hours on a recent frigid
morning. The single digit temperaturess made the driveway, which was already
treacherous, even worse as the water runoff froze instantly. The car itself
was a complete loss, but several other vehicles and a nearby residence were
undamaged.

City of Poughkeepsie Battles
Commercial Fire
City of Poughkeepsie firefighters, assisted by the Arlington, Fairview, and
Pleasant Valley Fire Departments, operated at this three-alarm fire on
Pershing Avenue on the evening of January 19, 2010. Upon PFD's arrival, they
had heavy smoke pushing from the roof of a single story commercial
structure, and second and third alarms were quickly requested, which brought
additional manpower and a FAST unit to the scene. Firefighters found they
had a fire in a two-foot void between the structure’s roof and ceiling and
began attacking the fire from below and vented from above. Once the fire was
knocked down, firefighters continued to make numerous observation holes in
the structures roof to verify that all problem areas were addressed. The
cause of the fire is being investigated by the City of Poughkeepsie Fire and
Police Departments.
