A fire on Division Street came in as an attic
fire shortly after midnight, Wednesday, July 9, 2008. The deputy
chief was first to arrive on scene, finding a large, two- story
duplex with heavy smoke pushing from the eaves. While an
interior attack was under way, a large section of the roof
collapsed into the attic area near to a location where 10
firefighters were working. The evacuation signal was
transmitted, and all firefighters were accounted for with no
injuries. All Schenectady equipment was operating at the fire.
Mutual aid from several area departments was utilized. Nine
people were left homeless and no injuries were reported.
